Studio Policy

My Studio Policy for everyone who takes lessons from me.

Personal Background: I have a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and I have studied with some of the top percussionists in the country. I have performed as a professional musician with many orchestras, percussion ensembles, chamber music groups, jazz and rock bands, and as a soloist throughout the world. I have experience teaching music and percussion to children and adults from 3 years old to 30 years old in class and one-on-one settings.

Philosophy: I believe that each student has the ability to learn music and how to play an instrument, regardless of their talent, prior skill level, or age. As your teacher, I will do my best to make sure my students receive a great music education. My goal as a music teacher is to give students the knowledge and skills that will allow them to be proficient musicians and appreciate music.

Student Expectations: Learning how to play an instrument requires hard work, dedication, persistence, and organization. I expect all of my students to practice consistently and thoroughly. The amount of daily practice time a student should spend practicing will be based on the materials assigned during lessons. Parents of students younger than 12 years old are expected to help students practice for a small amount of time daily.

Lessons: Lessons are taught from my private studio. Students are expected to have a lesson every week. The time and day of the week will be consistent and based on both my schedule and the student’s schedule. If a student has a conflict with the scheduled lesson time for a particular week, they must notify me no later than 24 hours in advance and must schedule a make-up lesson. If a student fails to notify me at least 24 hours in advance and misses a lesson, they are still required to pay for that lesson.

Make-up Lessons: If I have a conflict with a lesson time, I will notify you as far in advance as possible in order to reschedule a lesson for a different date and time. If a student would like to reschedule a lesson due to a conflict such as a sports activity, academic activity, religious event, family event, etc. please notify me as far in advance as possible but no later than 24 hours before the time of a scheduled lesson. If a student fails to notify me at least 24 hours in advance and misses a lesson, they are still required to pay for that lesson.

Fees: The cost of lessons are:

Payment is to be monthly and will be made at the first lesson of every month. If a student cannot attend a lesson and does not inform me at least 24 hours in advance, then they are still required to pay for the missed lesson.
