Tim Crockett

15 years of experience as a musician and educator.

Tim CrockettI have been a percussionist since 1999 and I have experience as an orchestral musician, chamber musician, band member, soloist and educator. Being a percussionist has given me the opportunity to travel all over the world and make music. From the US to Europe to Asia, I have had the privilege of performing with incredible musicians in front of amazing audiences. Being a musician has taken me on an truly incredible journey.

From 3 years old to 30 years old, I have taught many different students from all types of backgrounds in a variety of settings. From large classes to one-on-one private lessons, I have experience teaching in many different situations. In 2013 I worked as the Assistant Kindergarten Teacher at Waseda International School, an international school in Tokyo, Japan. In addition to assisting the homeroom kindergarten teacher with language arts, math, arts and crafts, I was given the opportunity to lead "rhythm classes" for kids ages three to six years old. The rhythm classes were a fun way to introduce percussion, singing and movement to the kids, as well as introduce them to musical concepts and develop a love of music. I also gave after school private lessons to students interested in percussion. I have been teaching private drum set and percussion lessons since 2010. In 2008, I was the percussion section leader for the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Youth Orchestra's 2008 tour to Europe.

Currently, I perform regularly with the sidexside Percussion Duo. The sidexside Percussion Duo is a percussion duo based in St. Louis, MO that I co-founded along with Kurena Yamaguchi. We play many different styles of music and perform in many different venues throughout the United States. In the past, I have been a member of many orchestras such as the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra and many others. As an active auditioner, I have been a finalist in many orchestral auditions in the United States.

I attended the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, one of the top music schools in the world. During my time there, I received a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music degree. Taking advantage of the many ensembles offered at IU, I performed with many of the orchestras, the IU Percussion Ensemble, the IU Brazilian Percussion Ensemble, the IU Steel Pan ensemble, and many chamber groups. While at IU, I studied with some of the top percussionists in the world, including John Tafoya, Kevin Bobo, Steve Houghton, Michael Spiro, and Tony Cirone.

Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, I attended Ladue High School and was a member of the band and percussion ensemble. During high school, I was also a member of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, All-Suburban Band and Jazz Band, and All-State orchestra. My private teachers during high school were Rick Holmes, John Kasica, Michael Faris, Doug Smith and Kevin Gianino.
